history of the bobsleigh track

The la Plagne Bobsleigh track was built for the XVI Winter Olympic Games at Albertville in 1992.

The events of these Winter Olympics were spread over 13 different sporting venues. The decision to site the track at the heart of la Plagne’s ski area, la Roche, was influenced by our commitment to the sport. The Macot la Plagne bobsleigh club was the only Savoyard club still operating. It used the old road leading to the mines at la Plagne to run its bob competitions on the road.

Between 8 and 23 February 1992, the la Plagne Olympic track played host to 350 competitors from 27 countries who took part in 3 luge events – the Men’s single, the Ladies’ single, the Men’s double and 2 bobsleigh events; the 2-man Bob and the 4-man Bob.

Since 1992, the track has opened every winter for Bobsleigh, luge and skeleton. It is the only one in France.

Clubs and teams of all nations train here and national and international competitions take place regularly.

At the end of every day it is open to the public for Bob-raft and Taxi-bob. Around 10,000 people experience its thrills every season.
